National Lottery - Community Funded!

July 28th, 2023, 8:49PM

We are pleased to announce we have received lottery funding from the Community Lottery Fund, to continue to grow the success of our existing and newly launched services, over the next 2 years.

To celebrate this achievement we hosted a successful Wellbeing Event at Redby Community Centre, to raise awareness about the new investment  and the types of fitness/wellbeing activities, potential clients can participate in through our Sit to Be Fit programme.

On the day of the event, we took many new registrations and offered a variety of taster sessions for service users to experience, such as:

  • Introduction to a Gong Bath

  • Chair-based Yoga and Guided Mediation

  • Muscle Strengthening and Boxercise

  • Dance – using a variety of props.

  • Tai chi

  • Indian Head Massage

  • Shoulder Back and Neck massage

  • Health Information/Stall

  • Advertising of other Tailored Leisure services, service users can get involved in, such as Short-stay Breaks and Access Reviews.

A buffet was provided on the day, which was a huge success too; it gave participants a chance to refuel and socialise before re-engaging in the array of activities available.

We received very positive feedback from clients on the day… with clients stating they enjoyed the choice of activities available and would like to see these introduced into the new timetable, which will be released soon.

Since the delivery of the launch day, we have increased classes to 2 days delivery from Redby and 1 outreach session in Washington at Headway Wearside. Activities have consisted of Muscle Strengthening Exercise/Boxercise/Adapted Team Sports.

Initially, we have focused on increasing numbers at our Redby site as a primary focus and have seen a 35% increase in attendance figures.

In addition to the above, we have piloted 2 days of massage sessions at La Belle Amie on Sea Road, for our service users to enjoy. We have received excellent feedback for this new initiative, all participants stated that the service was professional, helped to relieve tension, relax and de-stress, which has a positive impact on their wellbeing. Going forward, this activity will be built into our timetable, in September.

In September, we will launch fitness/wellbeing activities 4 days of the week from our new fixed base (New Springs City Church, Fulwell Road) and will deliver additional outreach sessions around the region also.

We are very excited to start full delivery at our new venue in the Autumn and thank all our service users for their continued support and dedication.
